Like so many of you, I am loving all of the varieties of succulents that are available now, both real and faux. Ever since I had the pleasure of visiting the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix this spring (see post here.) I have been enamored with anything that reminds me of that beautiful place!
To extend my happy memories from a fabulous vacation, I decided to make a summer wreath using succulents as inspiration.
As you know, there are fantastic options for faux plants and flowers available now. I started with a base of faux "hens and chicks" (without the chicks, haha) and "burros's tail" (don't you love that name?) I attached them to a simple wire wreath form, using green florist's wire, so that the wire would be unnoticeable.
From there, I filled in with plants that might live among succulents in the Southwest...thistles, lamb's ear, etc., tucking them in among the base plants and using hot glue to secure them to the wreath. I also played around with some faux moss-covered-wire and made pointed leaf shapes for a modern twist. I like this color combination of different greens with soft yellows, purples, and oranges, as it reminds me of a desert landscape.
My summer succulent wreath will still look good going into the fall months. And the best part is that it's no-maintenance and everlasting!
