Our 1990's chair rail needed a serious facelift (see my hearth room post here.) So I continued the painting party into the entry and hallway. Also, though not very visible in the photos, I changed the wall color from a cool white to a warmer off-white.
And can you keep a secret from my hubby? While he was away on a business trip, I tweaked the front door color as well. I had all-too recently painted it an emerald green and loved it...for about a week. Then I realized that it might have been just a tad bit too green for anyone except maybe a leprechaun! At any rate, the newer, more olive color is just right. And so far, the hubby hasn't said a word (not sure if this means he hasn't noticed or if he's getting wiser about making comments as the years go by, haha.)
In keeping with my goal of creating a cleaner, more contemporary look in my rooms, I decided to remove the table from the stairway landing and replace it with a transitional style narrow mirror.
I hope I don't miss the space there to do a little seasonal decorating. But so far the hubby and I are really liking the open, streamlined look.
Also, I've had these doorknob shadowboxes for many years and still really love them. I bought one when I was working as an interior designer (over ten years ago) and the other I got at a garage sale for $5! So, after convincing myself that they weren't too overpowering for this small wall, I decided they were the perfect entryway art.
And the next project on the list...painting the stairway handrail and newel post black, to add a little drama and to echo the black accents throughout our home. Surprisingly, this project has been pre-approved by the Mr.!
Although, I would do it even if he didn't agree ;)
